Piru, is a small town located in eastern Ventura County, California near the Santa Clara River and Piru Creek, and on Highway 126.  As of the 2000 census, the Census Demographic Profile (CDP) of Piru had a total population of 1,196.
Piru was struck by two major disasters in the twentieth century.  March 12, 1928, the St. Francis Dam broke, causing the deaths of 400 people, many in Piru.  And the Northridge earthquake of January 17, 1994, which damaged several buildings in the historic downtown area.
The Piru Motocross Park, Rancho Temescal and Lake Piru in the Los Padres National Forest are the main recreational attraction near Piru.
